1. SHOP only at sites you know or trust. Beware bargains that are too good to be true.
2. Never enter your credit card number unless you know that it is a secure site. Look for the URL (page address) to begin with HTTPS: The "S" stands for secure.
3. Only give the minimum information necessary. (And carry only the minimum necessary with you in case your wallet is stolen.)
4. Check the site's Privacy Policy. Many SELL your information to others.
5. Clear (delete) cookies in your browser regularly.
6. Most financial email is phony. If you really believe your bank or other institution is trying to contact you, PHONE them.
7. If you receive email or visit a web site that seems legitimate but asks for too much information or seems somehow wrong, check with a security professional.
